You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. KJV-Interlinear 19 And so we see that they were not able to enter because of unbelief. NASB The Israelites did not listen to the words of Moses, though they had seen all of the blessings and miracles that God had performed for them for more than forty years. They were in slavery, as a people for over four hundred years, then suddenly they were free after ten very dramatic miracles that impacted the Egyptians only, and not them. You and I have miracles performed by God for each one of us, everyday of our lives. Life in itself is a miracle. I saw on the news today, that the State of Kansas has adopted new science guidelines that reject evolution. Those opposing the new rules complained that this was a sad day for science and education and that it would bring Christianity into the public school system. How wrong can they be!!! Just like the Israelites, those who oppose God and doctrine, and truth by the way, are many. They do not look at life for truth, but they look at life through their closed minds, embracing lies, and ultimately rejecting truth. They just do not want to believe in God, but they want to perceive themselves as somehow independent from the facts of reality. They are the disobedient of life, just as the Israelites were disobedient. They don't believe in miracles. The word here in our passage for unbelief really means disobedient. Disobedience means rejection of truth. Num. 14:1-2 1 Then all the congregation lifted up their voices and cried, and the people wept that night. 2 And all the sons of Israel grumbled against Moses and Aaron; and the whole congregation said to them, 'Would that we had died in the land of Egypt! Or would that we had died in this wilderness! NASB Prov 29:1 1 A man who hardens his neck after much reproof Will suddenly be broken beyond remedy. NASB The disobedience of unbelief forfeits blessing and brings judgment. And once inside judgment, then there is no way out. The Israelites died in the desert. We just came from our study in Ezekiel and we saw the judgment prophesied against Jerusalem. Most died in that city. And of those who ran away, judgment pursued them to wherever they ran and they died as well. Very few escape the wrath of God. Very few. Miracles come to us everyday of our life. The fact that we are alive, have any health of any kind, any talent, any employment, the fact that we have anything in life, is a miracle. Life rides a thread, a very thin thread, and one can fall off in either direction at anytime. Not only can we simply slip in the bath tub, but we can get caught up in an accident, choke on food, become the victim of some crime, have a heart attack, lose our job, and the list of possible problems goes on and on. There are many threats out there that can enter into our lives, like that bird flu that seems to be siting out there on the horizon just waiting the go ahead from God before unleashing its fury against humanity. With well over a hundred million new people being born into the world every year, history can take out huge numbers (millions) in any kind of a disaster and the total world population growth will not skip a beat. By the way, I have placed those three population charts on the web site. We have seen several huge disasters and possible disasters recently. Most people just see them on the news on television, so we are generally desensitized from the real horrors of the disasters. All of the disasters seem to be happening somewhere else. Pakistan had its earthquake. France has its hands full with riots. Australia just caught a group of thugs before they went on their killing spree. There is always going to be a threat out there such that no one is safe regardless of where you live in the world. We cannot control the world. It will always be a hot bed of negative thinking. Negative people don't want to teach the truth in schools. Negative people over react at the treatment of captured terrorists. There will always be those who complain about everything, yet never offering one alternative answer to the problems of the world. They have no answers. The only thing we can control is our own thinking. Being obedient to God by means of engaging in a daily Bible study, by maintaining our fellowship status, by listening, and learning, and growing up in our spiritual lives, that will get us into the smallest and most exclusive club in history - spiritually mature believers. The alternative is to 'want' to go back into the slavery of the sin nature filled world (Egypt). A world where the pleasures of arrogance seem more attractive than the promise of truth. For those who reject God and truth there will be a very unhappy awakening one day. For those who pursue God and truth, then there will be a very happy evaluation and blessing both in time now, and especially in eternity when the real reward of life becomes a reality. God promises one certainty for the negative person - be disobedient (indifferent, apathetic, antagonistic, self righteous, self defining, etc.) to His Word and you won't go anywhere in life.
