Heb. 2:5-6

5 For [gar] unto the angels [aggelos] hath he [hupotasso] not [ou] put in subjection [hupotasso] the world [oikoumene] to come [mello], whereof [peri] [hos] we speak [laleo].
6 But [de] one [tis] in a certain place [pou] testified [diamarturomai], saying [lego], What [tis] is [esti] man [anthropos], that [hoti] thou art mindful [mimnesko] of him [autos]? or [e] the son [huios] of man [anthropos], that [hoti] thou visitest [episkeptomai] him [autos]? KJV-Interlinear

5 For He did not subject to angels the world to come, concerning which we are speaking. 6 But one has testified somewhere, saying, 'What is man, that Thou rememberest him? Or the son of man, that Thou art concerned about him? NASB

Hebrews starts out with a warning that man should not ignore his own salvation. There is a tremendous loss to be had if a person does not believe in Christ and thus does not become saved. By the way, you only have to believe in Christ once in your life in order to be saved. Once saved, always saved. Once born you cannot undo your birth. Likewise, once born again, in similar fashion, you cannot undo your salvation.

Now Hebrews turns to the destiny of man.

God did not create planet earth with man upon it, so that angels could rule man and earth. But we all know the story of Adam and Eve, in the Garden, and how they lost their rule over this earth, to Satan.

Man was made lower than the angels, among several reasons, to demonstrate that in our humble setting we could be raised (not by ourselves) to our original intended position above the angels.

Currently the world is under the rule of Satan and his followers. Satan's followers are called fallen angels, demons, and a variety of similar names. But their rule is not without conflict. Many would be leaders, politicians, tyrants, or even philosophers of the world, would be very disappointed to hear that man, 'they,' really have nothing to say about the destiny of the planet.

So, as for global warming, or climate changes, or population growth, or advancements in technology, and such, all of these, are really irrelevant in the greater picture of the planets destiny. Man will never be able to control any of these regardless of his legislation, discovery, or intentions, because man does not rule the planet.

Eph. 6:11-12
12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world forces of this darkness, against the spiritual forces of wickedness in the heavenly places. NASB

In Daniel 10, that conflict is detailed as explained by the actions of Michael and many other saved angels, as they fight constantly with Satan, not over the rule of the planet but over its existence.

Satan and his demons are out to destroy earth, which the chosen angels are here at Gods direction to combat their actions.

One day we (humanity) will sit in judgment over the angels.

1 Cor. 6:3
3 Do you not know that we shall judge angels? NASB

During the Millennium, when Jesus Christ rules, all of this conflict, all of the problems of the world, will go away, primarily because the conflict caused by Satan and his angels will be set aside. Satan will be placed in prison for one thousand years.

John 12:31
31 'Now judgment is upon this world; now the ruler of this world shall be cast out. NASB

In the Garden, man lost his identity, his salvation, and his purpose. In Christ, man receives back his identity, his salvation, and his purpose, and much, much more.

God never intended for the angels to rule, but to serve. In the future, angels will serve man who will one day be made higher than the angels. And, those beneath will serve those who are above.

The present superiority of angels over man, is temporary.

The 'world to come,' is a reference to a future inhabited earth. This is in contrast to Satan's intended purpose of destroying planet earth and the human race. Not only will the earth not be destroyed, but it will be inhabited forever. Of course there will be changes made in the new heaven and new earth to come as outlined in Revelation.

So, 'What is man?' The whole point in this passage is that God will raise man up to rule the universe (jointly) with Christ. God has a destiny for mankind. Saved mankind. And more specifically, saved mature mankind.

We are not here to raise up ourselves, nor to discover how to raise up ourselves. For in that (mans own purpose for himself) there is no future and never will be.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
