Lesson # Heb. 1:1-2 Study Material - Heb. 1:1-2 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Heb. 1:1-2 1 God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, 2 in these last days has spoken to us in His Son, whom He appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the world. This book begins with the word, God. Genesis begins with God. John begins with God. His eternal existence, the always existing one, 'I am'. His communication, Bible doctrine. His point of contact, the Son of God, Jesus Christ. His mechanics of revelation, the Holy Spirit. All these are tied up in the concept and persons of God. But there is no interaction with God unless we reach Him through the single and only methods that He Himself allows. In the past, in Old Testament days, God communicated with man in various ways. With Adam, He walked in the Garden daily and had conversations with Adam and Eve. When Adam and Eve fell in their sin, they hid and did not see God but they could hear His voice, the voice of His invitation, and salvation. Through the seed of the woman will redemption come - the birth of Christ. Once re-established in their relationship with God through their faith expression, they resumed conversations with God. As time went on, the verbal contact shifted to dreams and visions, and in rare instances verbal communication was used. At times angels were used in delivering communications. As the scriptures were written, the communications became less and less, until finally the final book of Revelation was written, and with it the entire written scripture was completed, and all communication with God ceased. Revelation was written approximately 96 AD. And that was the last communication from God. Log ago God communicated in various ways. With each new revelation, there was additional doctrine to be learned, additional expectations of further revelation, and the excitement and anticipation of these new revelations was always present among those who were positive toward God. But now, in our present days, and especially in those last few days of Christ's life here on earth, all revelation came through Him, Jesus Christ alone and no other. Now we have the written word, the mind of Christ. In the Bible we have the sum total of what we need to learn in this life, to make us ready for not only for this current life, but also the next, eternal life. There are no further communications from God. The study of the Word of God is the mechanism of our learning now. Of course it has always been this way since Adam, but all spiritual revelation has been made and further communication will not be made until the second advent of Christ, wherein He resides here on earth and rules directly. Anyone who has said that God has spoken to them, or has come to them in a dream, is in need of medical attention, or perhaps they had too spicy a food before bed time, or they are just an out and out plain liar bent on gaining the attention of people - self promoting themselves before people, and for their own deceptive motives. Jesus Christ in the Son of God. Co-equal and co-eternal with the Father, therefore qualified to represent God. Jesus is man and therefore qualified to represent man. This makes Him the only perfect mediator between God and man. There is no other person by whom we are represented to God, nor made presentable to God. Not the Pope, not Buddha, not any dead person in some prior century, not your local priest, no one. Christ is the heir of all things. He created the world. He owns everything and holds everything together by the power of His own word. He made the visible and the invisible. He made the tangible and the intangible. He made the physical and the spiritual. Through Him, Jesus Christ, all things exist and consist. There is no other power by whom anything can exist, or even continue in existence, or even come into existence. People pray to various saints (man defined saints), they worship idols (necklaces, stone idols, jewelry trinkets, etc.). People pray to fish, to eagles, to bears and wolves. They pray to the sun and moon and stars, to volcanoes, and other things in nature and in the universe. But none of these have anything to do with creation, with spirituality, with life or even death. Neither man nor angel, nor plant nor animal, nor stone or dust has any power or control over life or death. They cannot create life nor perpetuate it. There is only one power in the universe that can create, maintain, and take away life and anything else, and that Power belongs to Christ. There is only one source of learning about this Person and that is His very own Word - Bible doctrine. There is only one means of receiving Gods word and that is through the Holy Spirit who is the communicator of Gods word. There is only one class room for learning and that is fellowship. Everything began with God - the alpha, and everything ends with God - the Omega. And Jesus Christ is the alpha and the omega - the first and the last. Everything else, every other philosophy, every other opinion with respect to life, the meaning of life and so forth, is worthless.
