Continuing from the previous verse. God chose to reveal the Son, who is the Messiah, who is the Savior, who is Jesus Christ.
God chose to reveal the Son to Paul, so that he, Paul, would be able to take that knowledge of the gospel, to the gentiles. And this is the purpose that God had chosen for Paul, for the remainder of Pauls life.
In eternity past, God saw Paul and Pauls life. God saw you and your life.
When Paul was born, then his life became an active part of history. The same is with your life.
When the gospel was revealed to Paul, and we can reasonably assume that Paul has heard it many times prior to when he was on the road to Damascus, but when God revealed the gospel to Paul and Paul believed, then at that moment, Paul was saved and Gods intended purpose began in Pauls life.
It is the same with your life. Prior to your birth, you were a potential. You might have been born, or you might not have been born.
But at the point of your physical birth, you received human life into your soul.
Once you were born physically, then your potential changed to being either an unbeliever or a believer for your life.
The gospel is revealed and you either believe or you do not. Most folks do not believe especially at an early age, since they are simply too young to understand, as with infants or toddlers But at some point when a person grows up, they do understand and they do receive the gospel, and then they either believe or they do not believe.
The potential then is for spiritual life, or not.
So, a person born, possesses human life, and then add to that the gospel and then with faith, you have spiritual life.
This then leads to the next potential, which is spiritual growth to spiritual maturity. You will either learn doctrine and grow up, or you will not learn doctrine and not grow up.
So, to ones spiritual life you add doctrine and that leads to spiritual growth and the eventual formation of spiritual maturity.
And once you have some semblance of spiritual growth in your life, then the potential of your intended purpose becomes manifest in your life.
When you first believed in Christ, God gave you gifts, which are also potentials. You will either use them or not.
When you grow up to spiritual maturity, then your purpose in life is revealed and you function as God intends for you to function in life.
Unfortunately for most believers, they never achieve this status in their life. They are too negative and do not grow up and thus their purpose never rises to the level that it was intended.
Now notice that Paul, once he heard the gospel, answered, 'Lord.' He recognized the Lord which it the indication to is from within the scriptures, that Paul believed.
He did not go immediately to other people, flesh and blood, to discuss what had just occurred. He did not get consultation from experts as to what had just occurred on that road. He did not go to friends or neighbors, or fellow workers, or even the apostles or other experts of experience with Jesus. And Paul did not start out teaching and preaching the gospel.
As a new born believer, you are an infant or a baby within your spiritual life. No baby ever taught anyone anything, much less wisdom.
And as we will soon see, Paul will go to doctrine in order to grow up and to learn truth. Then and only then, when he is prepared, will he begin to do that which God intended for him.

End Of Lesson
Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
