Ephesians 2:14

14 For [gar] he [autos] is [esti] our [hemon] peace, [eirene] who [ho] hath made [poieo] both [amphoteros] one, [heis] and [kai] hath broken down [luo] the middle wall [mesotoichon] of partition [phragmos] between us; KJV-Interlinear

14 For He Himself is our peace, who made both groups into one, and broke down the barrier of the dividing wall, NASB

The subject is Christ, and between Christ or God, and man, there is a wall, an impenetrable wall of enmity, mentioned in just a couple of verses later in this chapter.

Namely the wall is sin, which is a barrier between man and God.

Some propose that this wall existed between Jews and Gentiles. Others propose that this wall was a reference to the separation between the outer and inner room of the Tabernacle, still others propose that this wall was the division between the Jewish court and the Gentile courts of the Temple.

But reconciliation is in view here, and man does not need to be reconciled to himself. Sin is the great barrier that separates man from God and that wall is the Mosaic Law, which makes it very clear that man is sinful and unable to remove that sin from himself. Only God can remove that barrier, and Christ is the instrument of Gods work to that end.

Christ is the peace, and peace here indicates the removal of enmity, producing rest.

In two ways, faith in Christ produces salvation and removes the enmity of eternal condemnation, while after salvation, then Christ, as the word, when learned and maintained from within the soul produces spiritual maturity, and that too, produces peace, inner peace within the soul.

Having made both one, both Jew and Gentile, both male and female as one in Christ. Now there is neither male nor female, neither Jew nor Gentile. Only individuals who have believed in Christ, and now are believers with eternal life and a destiny in heaven with God forever.

Man creates and promotes distinctions between the species. God removed barriers.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
