22 Flee [pheugo] also [de] youthful [neoterikos]
lusts: [epithumia] but [de] follow [dioko]
righteousness, [dikaiosune] faith, [pistis] charity, [agape] peace, [eirene] with [meta] them that call
on [epikaleomai] the Lord [kurios] out of [ek] a pure [katharos] heart. [kardia]KJV-Interlinear
22 Now flee
from youthful lusts, and pursue righteousness, faith, love and peace, with
those who call on the Lord from a pure heart. NASB
Flee, 'pheugo,' means to be on the run like a fugitive, to be continually on the run with no rest, no place to hide, no temporary respite from the running.
Youthful lusts, does not mean only sins that occur while one is young, but is a reference to the concept, the enticement, the attractions of sin to a younger person. They are enticed easily, and fooled easily, and distracted easily, and they allow their wants and desires to go unchecked generally without much thought behind their decisions and actions.
So, do not so easily allow yourself to be enticed, tempted, flirted, trapped with sin, all manner of sin, all categories of sin, all the things that keep you from your spiritual life.
Run from the flirts, run from the temptations, run from the thoughts, run continually run, from anything and everything that will drag you out of fellowship and into the carnal sphere of life. Avoid them, stay away from them. Do not allow your thoughts, even idle thoughts, even your day dreams to get you into trouble.
Instead pursue, the opposite of flee, meaning to chase after, to prosecute with a vengeance, follow relentlessly, constantly and continually.
And you are to pursue your spiritual life. But not from an emotional standpoint, but from an objective approach to life.
Pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace. And do this with a pure heart. These four characteristics define and describe a pure heart.
Righteousness, 'dikaiosune,' is the sinless perfection obtained by means of justice. In other words fellowship through confession, made possible by means of Christ's work on the cross. You must live within the state of fellowship. Cleansed and ready and available for presentation before God. Your spiritual life functions while in a state of perfection, sin free, clean, and so forth.
Faith, 'pistis,' means faithfulness, obedient, persuasion, fidelity (to God and truth).
Love, 'agape,' means the content of the scriptures, specifically the principles, mandates, rules, expectations responsibilities and so forth.
Peace, 'eirene,' means rest, serenity, harmony, prosperity, security.
Pure, 'katharos,' means clean, pure, complete, honorable, cleansed.
Therefore, pursue your spiritual life in the proper manner, in obedience to Gods mandates, in fellowship, through study, for that is the only way that you can learn the principles of doctrine, resulting in a relaxed mental attitude, resulting in a state of inner peace, leading to a result of completed perfection, prosperity, security, and such that only God, through doctrine can accomplish.
Through this process you will be presentable before God, before Christ when the time of your so important evaluation arrives, and thus qualifying you for your reward for eternity, which reward is beyond your imagination, and eternal.
To do otherwise, means that you risk losing a vast fortune, a vast blessing, a vast benefit. Thus your spiritual life is more important than any other thing in your entire life.
