15 Meditate upon [meletao] these things; [tauta] give thyself [isthi] wholly to [en] them; [toutois] that [hina] thy [sou] profiting [prokope] may [o] appear [phaneros] to [en] all. [pas]KJV-Interlinear
15 Take pains with these things;
be absorbed in them, so that your progress may be evident to all. NASB
Meditate, meletao, means to think things through, to ponder on them,
planning, strategizing, fitting things together as one would pieces of a
puzzle, concentrating.
To give thyself wholly, isthi en, means
to dedicate oneself, to adopt as ones own, to subscribe
to, to make exclusive.
Profiting, prokope, means preparation, advancement, accomplishment,
progress, benefit, yield.
These things, is a
reference to the subject that we have been studying in this entire letter,
namely the study and learning and utilization of Gods
Word, in our daily life. And even though
Paul is writing to Timothy, these principles apply to all Christians.
God created all things,
seen and unseen. You can look at the
night sky and see as far as in humanly possible and still you know that there
is much, much more out there.
You can look at life
and know that no person remains on this earth forever, but that everyone leaves
this life in due course.
You know that once you
are gone from this life, there is another life waiting for you,
that will extend into eternity. And that is a very long time.
You know that God has
made promises of great reward and blessing for those who advance in their spiritual
life.
You know from looking
at examples of life in this world, that there are those who have great wealth
and those who have little or none.
If you had your choice,
and you do, would you prefer to have a little or a lot, in eternity? Most folks would prefer a lot, of course.
So, Paul is reminding
and advising you and every believer that has an ounce of care in them, that if
you want to advance to the most that you can possibly be, both now and in
eternity, then you have to make a decision, to make Bible doctrine a central
part of your life. And not only for the
moment, but for everyday of your life no exceptions, no excuses.
What is at stake?Well, consider that there is an infinite
difference between the future of the unbeliever and the believer.
The difference, between
the Lake of Fire and Heaven, is infinite.
Likewise, the difference
in blessings, between the immature believer and the mature believer, is
infinite.
Therefore, since these
differences are vast, having phenomenal blessings forever,
makes their vastness even greater and off the scale.
One really has to
wonder just why more people do not pursue their spiritual life with vigor?
Anyway, when you
advance in your spiritual life, then your knowledge, your relaxed mental
attitude, your poise, your ability to handle problems, and so forth, will become
apparent to others. But even so, your
first concern is toward God, and not to making an impression for people.
A great future is
waiting for you.You just have to decide
to commit your life to doctrine, in order to secure your great future.
