You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. 1 John 5:1-3 1 Whosoever [pas] believeth [pisteuo] that [hoti] Jesus [Iesous] is [esti] the Christ [Christos] is born [gennao] of [ek] God [theos]: and [kai] every one [pas] that loveth [agapao] him that begat [gennao] loveth [agapao] him also [kai] that is begotten [gennao] of [ek] him [autos]. 2 By [en] this [touto] we know [ginosko] that [hoti] we love [agapao] the children [teknon] of God [theos], when [hotan] we love [agapao] God [theos], and [kai] keep [tereo] his [autos] commandments [entole]. 3 For [gar] this [houtos] is [esti] the love [agape] of God [theos], that [hina] we keep [tereo] his [autos] commandments [entole]: and [kai] his [autos] commandments [entole] are [eisi] not [ou] grievous [barus]. KJV-Interlinear 1 Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God; and whoever loves the Father loves the child born of Him. 2 By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and observe His commandments. 3 For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments; and His commandments are not burdensome. NASB Whomever believes in Christ will be saved and also be born into the family of God. There is no other name, place, or thing through which this might be accomplished. The Bible is either telling the truth or it is not. If not then you are free to invent your own religion and passage to God. If it is, then you have but one path to God and that path is through Jesus Christ. No other prophet, not Mohammed, nor guru, nor wise man, nor animal, nor ancestry, nor culture, nothing will give you that which the Bible gives. You cannot accept the Father and reject His plan. The only means of receiving the Father is to accept His plan in total. That means that Jesus Christ has to be accepted and believed in because the Father will accept no one who does not come to Him through the Son. The Son is the only gateway to the Father. Likewise, when we come to the Father through faith in Christ, then we have to live in accordance with the rules of the Father. His house, His rules. We learn His rules through our daily Bible study. You cannot know what you do not learn. You have to learn first before you can come to know and understand the rules of the house. Also, you have to apply the things you learn to your life before you can really get a grasp on the things you have learned. This is understanding and the beginning of wisdom. We call all of this the circle of wisdom, which by the way is a true concept of life not some cartoon 'circle of life' stuff you get on the TV or at the movies, which is a very subtle distortion of truth. So John is now beginning to summarize the principles he has been teaching. First comes salvation - faith in the Son. This is also referred to by John by the 'blood' later in this chapter. Second comes fellowship - confession or the washing away of filth. This too is referred to by the 'water,' John later refers to in this chapter. Then there is the attitude that one has in life, and that attitude is to follow the concept of love, which is obedience to the principles, to the commands, to the mandates, to the responsibilities which God has placed upon us. All of this is hardly a load at all on our person. Life in the jungle is a burdensome load on our shoulders. We have to live. We have to get an education. We have to get a job. We have to pay bills. We have to deal with our own thoughts, with people, with bureaucracies, with natural disasters and such. Life is one problem and one pressure after another from sunup to sundown. Even in our sleep we have pressures to contend with, and the jungle offers no relief. Not so with Gods plan and the spiritual life which He has defined specifically for each one of us. No pain, no gain (which is never guaranteed) is a jungle term. Gods plan is no pain, certain gain to the maximum, and that is a promise. But who pays attention to this?
