Chapter 1 - Barren Fig Tree
Luke 13:8-9

8 And [de] he answering [apokrinomai] said [lego] unto him [autos] , Lord [kurios] , let [aphiemi] it [autos] alone [aphiemi] this [touto] year [etos] also [kai] , till [heos] [hotou] I shall dig [skapto] about [peri] it [autos] , and [kai] dung [ballo] [kopria] it:
9 And if [kan] [men] it bear [poieo] fruit [karpos] , well: and if not [ei de me(ge)] , then after that [eis] [mello] thou shalt cut [ekkopto] it [autos] down [ekkopto] . KJV-Interlinear

8 'And he answered and said to him, 'Let it alone, sir, for this year too, until I dig around it and put in fertilizer; 9 and if it bears fruit next year, fine; but if not, cut it down.' NASB

If there is no measurable change in the life, in the attitude, and therefore in the spiritual production of the believer, then God will order his removal from this earth, and the Son (our intercessor) will execute that order.

We are totally helpless in this world. We cannot control gravity. We cannot control the weather. We cannot control our life span. Though mankind has great arrogance in thinking that he has much control over many things in life.

But there is a higher life and history occurring right under our noses, a life wherein which we cannot even detect (angels and God). Were it not for the Word of God, we would have no knowledge about them. Our life here on earth is dependent on two things. First, the grace of God, and second, our positive attitude toward truth.

Truth is where fact and reality meet perfectly. Anything else is mere speculation, imagination and generally false when it comes right down to it.

God gives us generous latitude in deciding what kind of a life we will have for ourselves. Even when we constantly choose the wrong path of un-productiveness, there is another who will stand in our place and intercede for us when we have really forfeited our right to a continued life on this earth. Jesus Christ is that intercessor.

Greater grace comes into the picture, and Gods greater patience. Though people in general will blame God for all of their problems, it is really they themselves that are to blame, and it is God who is generously giving more time for people to come around to the truth of life, and to get their act together. Too often people just will not get their eyes off of themselves, being too caught up with their own selfishness and indifference to the realities around them.

So another chance is given once the individual has more than demonstrated his negative attitude toward fulfilling his purpose in life.

'Oh,' but you say, 'Weren't we placed on this earth to get an education, to find someone and get married, to get a job or career and work, then retire and go fishing?' 'And, along the way we have the right to party, be social, come up with our own definition of life, save the world from those tyrant bankers, businessmen, politicians, whomever it is you think is to blame for the worlds problems?' 'Weren't we supposed to get involved and crusade, and be liberal, and tell everyone else what to do and how to live their lives?' 'Hummm?'

And the answer to all of that is - 'No.'

God created us to live with Him in heaven forever. Period!

Look at history briefly. God created the angels, all of them, instantly and altogether. They did not have baby angels along the way, but were all created instantly. They were a happy lot and could have shared heaven with God forever. God went one step further and created the universe for them. He created it instantly and perfectly. The angels all fell out of grace. So now there is a problem. Will they turn back or will they just go off on their own and ignore God? Can the angels control their destiny if God is not in the picture?

Now we have that answer with human history. They were all condemned. Two-thirds turned back to God and one-third of the angelic population remained defiant. Satan challenged Gods decision. So now mankind comes onto the scene to answer that challenge. We were not created all at once and instantly, but are created each one of us, one at a time in each successive generation over the course of history.

Our life here on earth is short when compared to eternity (gazillions of years). We live here on earth in ignorance. But in ignorance many people think that they can come to know everything. As Satan has done.

Only with the revelation of truth (scripture) can people really know the truth from the lie in life. Some pursue that course of study (truth). Most do not. And the majority get involved in politics, in crusading for this cause or that cause, or they just don't get involved in anything. Indifference to God runs a very wide path of self invented self-determination.

Are we here to make the world a better place? No. God will take care of that if need be. What we are here for is to make ourselves better by learning Gods Word and by producing 'good fruit' as it were. Good fruit is representative of spiritual growth and productiveness. With that we are prepared to enter into heaven and thus gain greater blessings than we could ever imagine.

Those who are not interested in God or doctrine or their spiritual life, will have many opinions concerning life - all of which will be wrong. They just won't realize that they are wrong until it is too late for them.

History has been divided up into many dispensations. God is the driving wind of history. We have already studied this in Revelation and in Joel. Human history is not being driven to a better human race. Human history is not being driven such that mankind will go to the stars. Human history is being driven to demonstrate that if given the chance to better oneself, man will turn away from God, and to his own wisdom and will eventually destroy himself with tremendous violence.

That is really what our current study is all about. We are studying Revelation, but have taken a side trip to the Parables of Christ to reveal what is available to mankind, and then see what man will really choose for himself.

And, one more thing here, we should see by now that our spiritual choices are very easy to come by. All we have to do is believe in God, and in His promises. God really does all of the work. But of course people become impatient and want to do things their own way in life, and that leads them right back into the pit of the jungle and trouble in their life.

God is patient though. He gives us all time to get our act together, and then gives us more time. People can be stubborn and because things just do not happen instantly in life, they become disillusioned, impatient and drift away from God. Then the order comes along - 'Cut it down.' And the unproductive tree is removed and tossed aside (worthless) to make room for another.

So, now you can go back to our check list whenever it is convenient for you. Find it on the Index page on the web site. Review it and see if you are in compliance with all of its basic principles. If so, then you are on your way to a great life. If you are deficient in anything, then you have issues to be resolved within your own soul. If you don't even know of the check list, then you may have a lot of issues in your spiritual life.

What do you want out of life? Something for this life on earth - a home, a car, some friends, retirement, sex? Things that will disappear when you die?
Or do you want the best possible circumstances for your life in eternity where you will live for gazillions of years? God does all of the work, but you decide which door you will walk through. End of Lesson
