Matt. 27:61

61 And [de] there [ekei] was [en] Mary [Maria] Magdalene [Magdalene] , and [kai] the other [allos] Mary [Maria] , sitting [kathemai] over against [apenanti] the sepulchre [taphos] . KJV-Interlinear

61 And Mary Magdalene was there, and the other Mary, sitting opposite the grave. NASB

Mark 15:47
47 And Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of Joses were looking on to see where He was laid. NASB

Luke 23:55-56
55 Now the women who had come with Him out of Galilee followed after, and saw the tomb and how His body was laid. 56 And they returned and prepared spices and perfumes. And on the Sabbath they rested according to the commandment. NASB

When all had been completed there remained two people who stayed outside the now closed tomb, Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James the less (Joses). They were no doubt shocked and stunned at the suddenness and magnitude of the events of the day, and now were in mourning.

We can only imagine what they were thinking, but their stay would have been brief. The hour of the beginning of the Feast of Unleaven Bread began at sunset, which is approximately 6 p.m. So they would have to depart from the tomb. Though tears and grief bound them there, they were bound also by the ritual beliefs of that time in history.

These two women were the last two to leave the tomb. They will be the first two to return to the tomb on the morning of the First Fruits, Sunday morning. Mary Magdalene will be the first person to see the resurrected Christ.

But for now they discussed what they were going to do with regard to the body. They had to stay away from the tomb until Sunday morning. That was three days away.

Their intent was to go home, and gather and prepare more burial ointments and perfumes, then return to the tomb on Sunday morning and properly prepare the body for its permanent residence inside the tomb.

At the moment they were so filled with grieving, that they did not consider the prophecy that after three days, the Messiah would be resurrected. They held this view for the full term of the three days. No doubt they would have conversations with several people during the next three days, even some of the apostles will come out of hiding, but no one suggests that they wait patiently and see the resurrection.

In fact the only people who consider this possibility (resurrection after three days) are the enemies of Jesus, and so they will want to place guards at the tomb to prevent anything from happening. But that study is for tomorrow.

Thus far we have many people who were loyal to Jesus. They viewed Him as a great man, even the Son of God, but this last title did not quite sink in.

He is the creator of the universe, Col. 1:16. He sustains the universe, Col. 1:17. He is the visible image of the invisible God, Col. 1:15. He is the blueprint of the ages (dispensations). Of ages past, Eph. 3:5, Col. 1:26, and of ages future, Eph. 2:7. The blueprint is the plan, the map, the design which the builder follows in order to complete the design and desires of the owner, which in this case is God the Father.

But also, we as Christians have a blueprint to follow for our spiritual lives and in our daily lives. It first begins with faith in Christ. That take all of a few seconds to accomplish. 'Father, I believe in Jesus Christ.'

Once you have done that, then you are saved forever. Your blueprint now consists of, (1) building up a structure in your soul with doctrine (by learning by means of your daily Bible study), then (2) furnishing that structure (by means of application of doctrine to your daily life), and (3) all of this is accomplished while residing within fellowship (that residence being obtained or recovered by confession of sin to God the Father, and of course the fellowship residence is lost by committing a sin).

Apply these three principles to your daily life and you will accomplish a comprehension of Gods Word, followed by an understanding and orientation to life, and finally you will gain wisdom based on all that God has provided you through your study.

This gives you discernment regarding all the deceitful phenomena that exists out there in the world. It gives you the realization that you are hopeless and helpless in this devils world, and finally you build up faith in God knowing that He will never abandon you, but will carry you through all manner of problems and circumstances that any one of us may be confronted with in this world. Though weak, we are made strong.

Now, that said. These two women were sad for sure. They were devastated at what they perceived as their loss. But their emotions were working overtime, when they should have been listening during the many months and even years that they were with Jesus Christ. The passage states that they came with Jesus from Galilee. They had followed Him and had been with Him for a long time. They heard all He had to say about His being taken and put to death, but would arise three days later.

Right now they were more concerned with their emotional loss, than they were with Gods plan which has just saved the entire human race. Which is more important?

We all face difficulties in our lives. For some it might be from annoying internet scam games. For others, it might be a bad marriage, or difficulty in paying the monthly bills. Still for others it might be a severe medical situation, and for still others it might simply be your being surrounded by insurmountable odds over which you are totally helpless to control or resolve. I probably did not name your problem, but suffice to say we all have or have faced or will face difficulties that will make us wonder why? Why, me? Why me now? Why is this happening?

That is the point of our test of faith. We have seen the face of God through our study of Jesus Christ thus far. God does not bring about difficulties arbitrarily, nor on purpose, but desires only the best for us in our life. That best comes from our advance toward spiritual maturity.

We have to think through our situation and God will always reveal some alternative for us, and if none exists, then we stubbornly continue in our daily Bible study, and persevere toward our goal of spiritual maturity because sooner or later that status of maturity will pay back to us, dividends beyond our wildest dreams. And that is a promise that God has given to each and every person who advances to and maintains spiritual maturity.

Don't allow the world to get the better of you and defeat you, but rise above it all through positive volition and tough it out in your daily study. Things will improve for you in this life, and certainly in the next. Never doubt God or His plan for your life, especially when you cannot see the reason for your situation.
